Is Your Website Slow?

Is Your Website Slow?

Rewriting the Platform, in Little Time!

We all know the magic number two seconds is how long it will take for someone to get off of your website because it is too slow. Once that happens, an opportunity is lost and you cannot get it back because you left that impression. Let’s face facts, No One Likes Slow Websites regardless if you have many features on the page you are trying to load. Here are some ways to improve your speed.

Why go through the trouble?

Search engines will not index your website as well as W3C as they will look for better performing sites to pull up first to not waste the user’s time. That being said, because you have a bad performance in speed, your competitor is taking advantage of that. This bad placement in SEO no matter how good your keywords and meta data is in place, this will hurt your website’s findings on search engines and therefore, you lose business opportunities.

Check via Pingdom or Google PageSpeed Insights

These tools are very powerful and can help point you to the right direction for your website to gain faster speed. Pingdom is what we really recommend as they pull even more hints and pointers than just Google PageSpeed Insights. They will tell you how to optimize content, code or even images much better. However, Google PageSpeed Insights gives you an entire package of optimized images, code and much more after you test the page on that tool. You will have a list of things to do to improve, but how can it be done? What if you are not using WordPress or a mainstream CMS provider and have to manually link files together? No FTP knowledge? That is where you might want to ask an agency or a web developer in the area to ensure what is the best to do or pass off to them because once you get that speed going quick, you will have the best results and more business opportunities.

Getting on Track

GZIP Compression: Depending on the server you are using, most files will have a php.ini file or .htaccess file somewhere in your directory. All you have to do is place the code and once it does it’s magic, you have compressed partially all of the files. Some WordPress Plugins such as WP Fastest Cache, Super Cache or W3 Total Cache provides for this solution.

Image Optimization: Google PageSpeed Insights provides this for manual website developers and it is best for any kind of site rather it is WordPress, Magento or even Joomla. Just simply re-upload the image via FTP as it is optimized and replace it in the pages.

Optimizing Code: This can be tricky for someone who does not know how to code. From concatenation to merging files, you will have a major difficulty if you do not know how to do this. Once you have this optimized, the search engines will read one line of code versus thirty lines of code for only one action in the website, or they will pick up one file instead of five files for one action in the website.

Parallelization: This can be manually done by moving files or images to a CDN or subdomains of your own that will showcase all of the data elsewhere. Once this is done, the search engine will only pick up twelve files instead of one-hundred plus files for one page that includes many features.

Many More: There are so many more things you can do to improve your page’s speed such as contacting your host and purchasing more data for your hosting account and even deleting plugins or extra files that are unneeded for the site and find different solutions to make features happen on your website. The place is up to you as a business owner.
